After reading my sister's blog (ienvytheride.blogspot.com) - and her post called "16 Things" - I became tagged. I am now returning the favor and writing my own 16 Things about myself. If you are reading this, you are also tagged. That means you should leave a comment on this blog letting me know where I can read up on your 16 things. So, here it goes:
1) I woke up this morning to my husband singing to me. He often will sing little verses from songs for no apparent reason. Today he was singing "It's just you, and me, and Jesus" - a new one that I've never heard him sing before (and to which I'm sure those are the only words he knows). He makes me laugh, and smile, and feel good about this hectic life we're living. Usually his little songs do not make any sense - he will just randomly sing a line or two. He has serenaded me with Bob Marley and Stevie Wonder and Elton John - quite the variety and I love it all!
2) I cry in Harry Potter movies. I know, it’s weird. But I feel like I’ve watched Harry, Ron, and Hermione grow up and I feel like I’ve been with them through everything, even if it is just a movie. Some things just get to me like that – no matter how many times I’ve seen the movie, it always brings tears to my eyes.
3) I am stressed out right now. I was stressed out yesterday. I will probably be stressed out tomorrow. This is expected since I’m a third year law student. So, rather than freaking out about what could happen in the future – I make myself my little to-do lists and attempt to accomplish as many things as I can in a day. I don’t worry about what’s going to happen six months from now because that would completely destroy my ability to read my 200 pages of homework every day; wash, dry, and fold my two weeks worth of laundry; wash my weeks worth of dishes that have stacked up; and still find whatever time is left over to spend with my husband, friends, and family. I’ve got too much going on today to worry about tomorrow.
4) I listen to country music. Why? I have no idea.
5) I play a lot of video games. Mostly World of Warcraft. And I don’t feel guilty spending a couple hours playing online with my husband. If I didn’t have some way to escape the real world of law school hell, I think I would probably go crazy and have a nervous breakdown. Luckily for me, I am still sane (for the most part) and all it costs me is a few hours of running around with my Undead Mage and killing lions, tigers, and bears, oh my.
6) I miss my family. Due to my crazy busy law school schedule, I feel like I am never available to do anything with them or visit them. I wish that I had more free time to spend with them. Sometimes I feel like I have spent the last three years of my life isolated from my entire family.
7) When I was young, my family took care of foster children. I believe it was this experience that made me want to practice family law when I eventually become a lawyer. I care about children and I want to make sure that they are protected and that their interests are represented in court.
8) I am a dreamer and a planner. I have a huge list of places I want to travel to with my husband. For starters, Chicago, Ireland, Tibet, Nepal, California, Washington D.C., Florida, Alaska. I have several travel books and I love to research these places online. I like to plan trips and find unique things to do and see. I am very much into details.
9) My favorite television station is HGTV. I love to watch decorating shows. My husband and I live in a house that is over 100 years old – needless to say it needs some updating. Again, in true dreamer-fashion, I have a collection of ideas for tiling, flooring, paint color, décor, countertops, etc. – these are mostly tear-outs from magazines and paint samples. Maybe some day I will get to put those dreams into action and make some changes around our home.
10) I frequently slow-dance with my hubby when we’re in the kitchen cooking dinner – even when there’s no music playing.
11) My favorite color is green which I believe is the farthest color away from pink on the color spectrum. So when I was told that I would be wearing a "watermelon" colored dress (in my eyes, it looks like hot pink) to my brother's wedding, I was a little less than thrilled. However, I hope Laura knows how much I love her because I would never put on a pink dress for anyone but her! And I am very excited for this upcoming summer – the birth of their baby (my niece) in June, the birth of Heather & Matt’s baby (my niece or nephew, not quite sure yet) in July, and Jon & Laura’s wedding!
12) I am very blessed – for my husband who is with me every day carrying me through this law school hell; for my family who still loves me even though I never get to see them; for my friends who make me laugh and remind me to take it easy; for every minute I am alive.
13) I am currently in the following classes in law school: Secured Transactions, Immigration Law, South Dakota Practice, and Trusts and Wills.
14) About an hour ago I was asked to be a part of the law school Trial Team. I’m going to Las Vegas in February to participate in a trial competition!
15) I was having writer’s block, so the following things are from my friend Joe’s point of view. According to him, I am hard-working, determined, a true Star Wars junkie, a good friend, and an addict of Family Guy.
16) My favorite beverage is ice water.
